Third to Last Seat on the Right
“You can't build a bridge without stone.”
 But I did.
 I built a bridge
Large enough to span across the Nile.
I had no brick, lumber, or steel.
All I had were the remnants
 Of her past and mine.
 I did the impossible:
 A word she used
 For any occasion
 Difficult enough to doubt.
 She swore the passion
 And love we had
 Was worth keeping.
 Insecurities vanished with that
 First, innocuous kiss.
The bridge I built was destroyed
 In the end
 By fear and distrust.
 The once love intertwined bridge
 Collapsed under it's own weight
Of hatred for commitment and abuse.
She opened herself to the new world
And in return was crushed by
 Ignorance and spiteful acts.
Maybe you can't built a bridge without stone after all.
