Home On A Backroad
A back road, one I’ve yet to explore
I walk up the unfamiliar path
Clouds of sand and dust fill the air as my boots skin the road
An old wooden bridge sits on my left
 With a frozen stream below
What’s left of last week’s snowstorm is sprinkled on the sides of the road like a white bed sheet
The trees free of leaves, just bare branches
I walk, facing the nippy, chilling air and I stuff my hands in to my pockets to keep warm
Hearing a sound, I follow the sweet melody
An old country song playing from a house ahead
A faint red house sits alone with an open garage, where the music escapes
Crumbling porch toppling over on the side
Piles of wood from other parts of the demolishing house
An open door, an odd scene
I start to return home learning that any path untaken is a story waiting to unfold
