The Year that Stands Out
January 2nd, we were loading onto a plane to go to Jackson Hole, WY
We were all so happy
Starting the out snowmobiling, in -13 degree weather, in Yellowstone
We thought this would be the start of a great year
Little did I know, that the whole family would get into a big quarrel on that trip
And change a few things
…The year that stands out
He and I had been together for about 13 months
That is approximately 396 days
Daddy did not like some of my choices
Especially the choices I chose for 13 months
Many quarrels were over him
Which in the end, did hurt me and my father’s relationship
…The year that stands out
Excellence has always been expected
By me, as well as by others
Took two AP classes in 2013, as a freshman
The rest of the classes were all honors
In the end, I did make all A’s
However, with all the other obstacles that came into my path
It was almost too hard to bear
…The year that stands out
Months of turmoil was building
Our relationship like waves
Coming up or down
Out and in
The tsunami hit and we parted ways
It was so much to handle
But I knew it was time
…The year that stands out
The final straw
The cherry on top
The icing on the cake
As if 2013 had already not been bad enough
Gloom had set in from the break-up
I was ready for the weekend
Mom and I drove into the garage
We looked at each other
And we knew what had happened without saying a word
My father had moved out
The week of my freshman final exams of high school
I left my normal home that morning and everything was in its place
I come home and the family I had always known
The normal was forever gone
In a blink of an eye
…The year that stands out
The year that stands out
2013 was full of disappointments
Even though the year was more downs than ups
It did come and go
And now I have the future to look forward to
And the promise that it holds
…But, 2013 will forever be the year that stands out
