I learned your name yesterday,
while sitting on the floor,
laughter blooming from lips,
words caressing tongues,
and a PB&J clutched in my thin fingers.

I've called you Blue
for so long,
that your name
leaves a foreign taste
on my lips.

I test out the tang of it
late at night when the dregs of sleep
elude me.

I wonder if your lips
would taste like your name,
so rich
like Indian cress and lavender
or if it'd be different like how you're different

I love the idea of you, Blue
Maybe someday I'll come to actually love you too.

The author's comments:
You know how you see people all the time? You see them walking back and forth while you're sitting, same place same time every day. They become a part of your life and you don't even notice. But every once in a while you look up, and a face catches your eye and it's like you can't look away. So you keep looking, and you look harder and longer each passing day until it's like you know them when you don't. It's a hard hit of reality when you realize that you don't really know them at all.
