The Voice of Home
Her voice resounds
through the house, filling
the lifeless rooms with hope.
The vibrations of her vocal
chords produce sounds so clear,
so pleasant, that ones heart
cannot help but cease to beat
just long enough to hear
her voice without interruption.
Each time the familiar, pure,
sound creeps out from under
the locked bathroom door, I am
transported back to the
velvet seat, watching the little
girl with the big red wig
tug at the heartstrings
of a faceless crowd.
Now, alone, so far from her soothing
voice, I feel empty until the
small speakers of my lifeline squeeze
her song to me, drowning out the lonely
darkness from my dorm room.
With perfect pitch and heartfelt harmonies,
she brings me home, and jolts
me back to life, her voice
shaking my transparent heart
like a snow globe, and filling
it with comfort and bliss,
like glitter lighting up the glass world inside.
