Living In The Moment
I close my eyes and run.
The moon is so bright
I can see it through my eyelids.
Adrenaline courses through my veins.
My heart is pumping static electricity.
I inhale the cold, minty air
And it tickles my lungs.
This is what it feels like to live.
My brain only knows
The rhythm of feet hitting ground.
If I'm not focused
It's because I'm listening to the world.
When I say "I love you"
I hear one million people saying those exact words
In this moment-
A girl whispering into her dog's ear,
A soldier being deployed,
Last words to his sweetheart,
A couple holding hands beneath ringing wedding bells.
Love is so loud.
This moment is full.
While I recite this poem
Two kids share their first kiss,
A baby sees light for the first time,
Someone else sees it for their last-
Living in the moment is so complex.
I want to feel everything at once.
I want to light up the streets,
If you feel alone close your eyes and run with me,
The moon will light our way.
We will run forever.
We will be remembered.
We will run until the rhythm of our feet
Is synchronized with the world's heartbeat.
