Favorite Quote:
"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken" Oscar Wilde

We are dreamers.
We talk of a future.
We talk of adventure.
We talk of travel, traveling together.
Together we talk of forever.
Together in the future,

But what about now?
Now is what we should speak of:
Your problems
My problems
Our problems
So many problems!

We shouldn’t be looking to the future!
What about the present?
What about now?
There is so much at stake for us!
So why look to the future
When we may not get one?

The future holds possibilities and hope.
Hope that we will be free to do as we please.
The future holds freedom.
It holds choices.
Choices in what we want
Without having to worry about someone else.

But what if we have to worry?
What if there is someone to stand in our way?
What if there is someone to keep us from traveling?
To stop our adventures?
To stop our chance at a future?

Will you still be here?
Will you still be here for me?
Will you hold me like you do now?
Will you see me as the same?
Will you still love me?
Will you stay with me when we are not free?

Will you stay with me
When we are no longer free to follow our dreams
And go into the future together?
Just you and me.
Trapped in the present
Unable to break into the future.

The author's comments:
I wrote this as a way to express how much difficult it is to try to plan your life out as a teenager. In society today, we are expected to have plan and it is weird but "okay" not to. We are expected to pick a career path, a college, a job, a place to live and so much more all in a few months as a teenager. The choices we make as high school students effect us so much but we don't know what may get in the way of those plans we have. I hope to simply express some feelings that other high school students may feel as well.

I agree totallt with you. Nowadays, we are expected to know whatour future is exactly going to be like. In school, that is all I am told. And you got it out perfectly in this poem. I love it!
