It’s elementary
that’s where it starts
On the playground
Everyone hanging from monkey bars
And he’s staring at them
Hoping a playmate will come
Ask him to join
Nobody does
Nobody notices
Nobody cares

Throughout his middle school years
He just wants a friend
Someone he can talk to
About the pretty girl in maths
Instead he eats alone
Hoping someone will feel
The loneliness
spreading through his hollow bones
And stop it from consuming him
Nobody does
Nobody notices
Nobody cares

He’s now silent
Reclusive to everyone
They ask him why he’s muted
He doesn’t have the guts
To say what he screams at night
As he stares in the mirror
You’ve done this to him
You picked at his every insecurity
Without ever saying a single word
He stays quiet because you’ve taught him
No one cares about his feelings

In his mind he has no worth
There must be a reason
Nobody wants to be around him
It consumes his every thought
Everyday, all he does is loathe himself
He cries himself to sleep
Because no matter how many times
I tell him he’s worth it
He never believes me
Nobody does
Nobody notices
Nobody cares

Society killed the teenager
But society refuses to notice
Society refuses to care.
