They lay upon the sand still as stones
Many sounds surround them
The wind whispers throughout the trees
The leaves dance upon one another
So many crickets tonight-like strings of sleigh bells
Billions of stars fill the night sky
The clouds reallocate themselves in the atmosphere
The water wades in and out just barely tickling their toes
Although they are together, they fear their minds are far apart
Their thoughts scatter in all different directions
The anxiety builds
Their palms become slick with sweat like an icy highway
The air becomes harder to breathe
Still
They don’t say a word
They look, listen, and wonder
They wonder about the past, the present, and the future
Attempting to anticipate each other’s next move, their eyes meet
Only time will tell
Slowly he moves closer
She soon mirrors this action
With hesitation they both freeze
Only an inch of air remains between them
They advance
Their lips meet
A spark ignites
He hears fireworks
She hears a choir of angels
Smiles fall upon their faces before they retreat
Again their eyes meet
They don’t look away
They just lay there and listen…

While going through a hard break up, I decided to reflect back on the happy moments of my relationship. Somehow this poem came to me out of thin air.
