For a Moment
You run like a storm,
jumping,
skipping over logs, and
weaving in and out of trees.
Running away from
everything in your past.
Running from
your fears,
your nightmares,
your memories.
Dreaming of
a way out.
Your voice screams
only hoping to be heard as
you silently gasp for breath.
Crying out your heart and
breaking your soul,
you run to stay alive.
Your feet hit the
ground beneath you.
The soft earth
breaks under your
hard feet.
Twigs snap beneath
your pressure,
squirrels scurry away from
the commotion you make.
And the trees, spread
their branches in front
of you,
allowing you to only see
the damage you’ve created
in the past.
Stopping you scan around,
panting to catch your breath.
Realizing you’re
still alive.
You can stop running,
if only for a moment.
