almost lover
My body shudders at the mere mention
of your name, but my judgement
is clouded; does my heart ignite at the
sight of you or is it my brain screaming
words of warning? run run run

How do you embrace an old lover?
There is a diamond-shaped hold in my heart
 previously overflowing with memories of
You and I; apple-red cheeks and wind whipped
hair, when you kissed me by the ocean for the
very first time. You left me. You made sand
my enemy, the sea breeze no longer my friend.

 It is fight or flight:
Fight my feelings, abandon my heart
and flee to my brain, pushing away
the thought of you loving me again or
Fly with the geese in the shadow of
the moon, high off of each other, risking
it all for one last try at love.
