Panic
The power of the flashback;
dizzying,
frightening,
everything is spinning,
as the light dances behind your eyes.
It’s the good, the bad, & the ugly..
like that one scene from Star Wars.
But you are plummeting,
Down, down
Into things best kept hidden
Under smiles and happier memories
You were looking for extra time,
Which is growing short
To fix what’s wrong.
You take a trip to the past and into a dream
that you are not in control of.
Toying with your emotions yet again,
and losing your identity.
One step forward, then two steps back.
Moving without going anywhere.
You are drowning
But there’s air all around you
You reach out
But they’re all turned away
Their voices are a dull roar
Saying things you don’t want to hear
The memories swim before your eyes
Teasing and taunting
And you plead with them
To stop.
And then ,
Suddenly,
They do.
