The Final Chapter

Life is continuously changing
like the colorful leaves of fall
to the bare nakedness of dreary winter.
With each arrival of an acceptance letter
reading "congratulations!"
there are feelings of exquisite joy
intermingled with sadness.
My life long friends will fly
away like a flock of migrating birds,
but so will I.
We'll make new memories
that may cloud over the old ones,
but that little ray of sunlight
will always shine through,
and remind me of the unforgettable,
distant memories that will always
rest in the back of my mind.
