Red Rover Red Rover
Locked hand in hand
With a friend to my right
And a friend to my left
We stood tall
We stood strong
We stood still
In a straight line of ten
Across the endless, green field
Where my other friends were doing the same
Locked hand in hand
They stood tall
They stood strong
They stood still
A straight line of ten kids
Wearing the same royal blue t-shirt
With a bright yellow sun
The classic shades and smile
Placed right in the center
And a title above that read "Summer Camp"
In unison
They shouted "Red Rover, Red Rover, Let San come over!"
I thought to myself
"What a bad bad move. I'm going to make them pay."
With my invincible, macho mentality
I launched out of my line,
Bolted through the field,
And aimed right at my two best friends
Jesse and James accepted my challenge
And met me eye to eye
I flexed my shoulders,
Puffed my chest,
And braced for impact
This turned into what was a child's game
Into a man's game
The outcome of this battle would determine who was
Stronger, tougher, and cooler
This was the thought process of a
Typical 2nd grade boy
I crashed into their locked arms
Driving my feet through the ground
And in a blink of an eye
I was lying flat on my back
Gasping for air
With a sudden headache coming on
The bright, hot sun rays
Glared down at me
"What happened?"
For a second I thought I had lost consciousness
But as I slowly slipped back into reality
I had wished I had lost consciousness
Because it was at that moment
I knew what had happened
I lost the battle
And everyone knew it
Because all I heard
Was laughter all around
