Deep in the forest.
Continuously soaking from the water above,
rocks covered by the shadow of a cave.
Water falling into stillness in a little oasis,
a feel of fear lies like a blanket throughout the jungle,
as well as over the lost Spanish explorer.
Seeing glowing yellow eyes behind branches,
knowing he isn’t the only one in this forest,
birds begin to scream and screech impatiently waiting.
Sweat ran from his forehead to his cheek,
rushing through the forest,
unable to escape the engulfing green,
branches reach out to scratch him,
sounds of the jungle arise to top volume!
Then silence falls over the forest
the explorer is gone taken by the jungle,
disappeared like the late Mayans.
Chirping silently in the trees
Water flowing down the rocks
Deep in the forest
