I think I made you up inside my head.
How else could I be so lucky?
To fly from loneliness’ embrace
into arms that reach out for me,
saying, yes, we want you here.

I think I made you up inside my head.
Where else could you have learned to know me?
I tell you all the things I kept inside
and you respond and tell me just the same.
We see each other’s flaws and learn to love.

I think I made you up inside my head.
Why else would we fit so well
into each other’s tears and laughter?
We are different, and still
we are like stones of different colors
tossed to smoothness in the same sea.
