Elephant
When you’re old and wrinkly,
you’ll look back and wonder
why you cared so much about so many things.
You’ll remember all too many times
where you cried yourself to sleep,
worrying about things that don’t matter.
She and I came up with a code word…
Elephant.
When I sat there complaining,
about not getting what I wanted,
or sobbing because of one’s mean words…
she and I decided, when we spoke the word
Elephant, it would remind us to be happy.
We both knew how lucky we were to have the lives we did.
For so long we took advantage of it all…
but from then on, we learned to let all negativity go.
So cheesy, but so true…life is just too short.
You will not give into a selfish life if you remember one word,
Elephant.
So, when you’re old and wrinkly,
you’ll look back and smile.
