Steady as the car roles on
Buzzing, bright blue skies bares down upon
The hum of the motor loud in our ears.
A sudden realization comes as well as our fears,
For we are passing through
The bad part of town. —

The ghetto, the projects, the slums.
Where the useless people live, the scum
Of our cities reside in shacks, flimsy, vulnerable to the wind.
A sense of protection for the old and weary souls within
Dirt. —

Horror stories have been told throughout
Generations of how to block out
The bad people. Do no let them fool you
Keep your eyes facing forward waiting to get to
Safety—

Passing through I do not listen this time
I need to see all this violence and this crime.
I let me eyes wonder peering over
The top of my window and over my shoulder
A boy. —

A boy with charcoal eyes as dark as dusk
Catches my gaze and I can’t help but lust
Over those pitch-black pearls I can’t look away.
Our eyes lock never wanting once to stray
Beautiful. —

His amber skin, his worn down jeans
Baggy ripped shirt hanging loosely on his corpse by no means
Could you ever look down .
Don’t try to seek comfort in the ground
It’s too late. —

The black holes have you; they’ve sucked you in
His story is now being told, what he’s done, where he’s been.
No child like sparkle appears in these eyes
No glimmer of hope, no patience, no love only wise
Just a boy. —

Simply strength and strength alone.
Head held high back straight to the bone
He has lost too much yet he stands his ground .
This young child so alone and so proud
One last look. —

Instantly he is gone already so far behind.
But that stare, those eyes will remain in my mind
As the look of lost innocence and torn up youth
How can he possible hurt me, is that really the truth
Relief? —

As we pass my family lets out a sigh
‘Thank god we’re now safe” we can say goodbye
To the bad people, goodbye to the scum and the trash
All the issues and problems of the world we’ve passed in a flash?

But thank god we are now safe from
The bad part of town.
