How It Was

This little girl was feelin' scared

always bein' left alone, nobody to brush her hair

her mom watches and stands aside

while her dad beats her, laughin' when she cries.

The cops show up gettin' calls from the neighbors

The said they heard yells, actin' now instead of later

as they search the house, she runs and hides

wishin' the cops would see through her parents' lies

she knows where they keep the drugs but can't speak her mind

worried she'll get hit, knowin' she can't rewind.

Everyday is the same, with the popping pills,

the raging, and the pain

Doesn't know how or if she'll get by

not enough food in the house to be satisfied.

screamin' screamin' not enough reasons

no hope, no change, it continues through the seasons

There are things bein thrown

profanities bein' yelled

this is no place for a little girl to be held

she gets taken to a strangers house every week

there's no consistent place where she can stay and sleep

she's bein' treated like God knows what

but her parents aren't there, they don't give a f***

she's a little girl all sweet and innocent

The cops come every month but they don't do s***

Bein abused and yelled at everyday

too young to make a decision, should she leave or stay?

sittin' all alone feeling all stuck

livin' in a home with her parents f***ed up

her dad was always in a rage,

and her mom was locked up every other day

sittin' there while he screams and abuses

nothin' left to do but just hide the bruises.
