Rise Above This
Sitting at the edge of a cliff,
I was breathless
The air crisp, it froze my soul,
I was helpless
For everything that’s been done in the past,
I can’t erase it
Everything that’s been done in the past,
I no longer chase it
And they ask me if I recovered from all that crying
Because yes, at one point my heart throbbed,
I held my breath, and thought of dying
The moment where your mind goes blank,
A black canvas
Every time you painted a picture,
The paint appeared black,
You feel anxious
Cause’ you try to escape the hollowness of your own mind
But only to find out that you’re incapable of moving forward
The past clinging onto you, each step you take, you are battered
Bruises all over your body, your mom notices
Asks you, “hunny what’s wrong? What happened?”
But you shrug it off, because you yourself don’t notice it
So you head upstairs to your room
And you get into bed with your past
And you cry because it chokes you
And all you wanted was to finish your homework
That’s due for tomorrow’s class
Because you would rather sit in the back,
Fall asleep, make up for the hours missed due to all the crap,
That kept you up at night,
Than to be questioned by a staff
---------------------------------------------------
That’s how the mind works when you suffer from depression
Thoughts choke and kill, you feel no progression
But let me tell you about my recovery
And the discovery of how to cope
In the darkest hour, I found hope
Listen carefully:
To move forward, forgive yourself, others and take down that iron-clad
That encloses your heart and your mind
Let others in, don’t be afraid
People care about your heartaches, people care about your pain
Find happiness once more in the simplest of things
Sing a song, a happy one, about the good things life can bring
Because life shouldn’t be about the pain alone,
But about overcoming it
Life shouldn’t be about the pain alone,
But advancing from it
And then when you realize
Your inner strength and your lionhearted ability
Don’t thank me, but look right at me
Because I too, was once like you
Never will you be alone if that’s what you were wondering
Everyone has their fair share of merciless sufferings
All I’m trying to say is light can only be found in the darkness
So don’t give up too easily, have faith in yourself,
Believe that you will rise above this.
