Why, Mommy, did I go mad?

why, Mommy, did you turn away
When I told you of how his fingers made my skin burn so sickeningly underneath them,
Of how he used to visit me late at night and leave my insides feeling rubbery and numb
As he walked away

Why, Mommy, didn't you stop him,
That man you married
Why did it go on for so long?
Many years went by that way,
I'm sure you know
All the way up until I became a woman

The flashbacks of times long ago
Now burn the back of my eyes
As I walk the halls of school today

Did you know, Mommy?
I used to think I was
A very good actress
As I played with the other children in middle school

That was until I began to realize
That with every passing day
I was losing one of my marbles

And now, Mommy
As you sit across the house
In your own digital world
I sit in my own room,
Grinning at nothing

Mad as a hatter, I am
Just waiting for a day I
Can let it all loose

A rather angsty poem I thought of one night about my not that great childhood

Great poem. Very relatable, and real.
