Fate is bent upon her wheel
The treadle time beneath her heel
She spins forth a dye-ed strand
A thread of life, life of man
The yarn is cut to that life’s length
When man shall fade and lose his strength
Think not sad of this thin thread
For even as the man is dead
His life has and will stay on
A time on earth is never gone
Fate has taken this single weft
And begun to weave from right to left
A cloth of beauty and of strife
Every wisp and warp a life
Each its own distinctive street
Touching the others it may meet
Cloth of fate colored bright and dark
They all time of emotion mark
Times of joy blaze as flame
Dark are those that herald pain
Every event of existence shown
None is ever on its own
We may not see this work of fate
Our place we can but contemplate
But trust we must and make our way
To live and love each every day
