Hand over Hand
When I was young
You told me it was a
Temporary tattoo
Like the ones we stamped on ourselves
Of butterflies
I would run my fingers
Through the ridges in your arms
Fingering the legacy
Stitched into your veins
The reminder that ran through
your blood and the hollows of
your bones
A blue- black current of
history
It was in me too
But I didn’t know
And hand was placed over hand
Arm over arm
Grandfather’s over granddaughter’s
Seperated solely by the
creases in your palms and
and a
five digit tattoo
