on the news today-
humans blame the rapid urban sprawl
for cloudy yellow skies
the color of a dying man’s skin
and when they talk about the weather
they scorn the acid rain that makes the ordinary run,
seek shelter beneath dull nylon covers that line the streets
and you can’t help but wonder
if they love their children so much
why they are so terrified
by their own creation.

I saw you on the streets today
dancing in the rain
and I think it’s beautiful to see
someone truly love their kin-
without an umbrella
to shelter them from its embrace
so let the acid continue to rain
let it burn your skin
let it burn
until you finally feel alive again

I know you’re different from them
you don’t hide when the old man begins to cry
you see something
in the way the dirty fluorescent dewdrops bead on porcelain
seeping slowly into cracks
of a broken piece of china
and why should you care?
embrace the rain
the same way you caress tears
running out of dense galaxies beneath your brows
this is the reality
we have made for ourselves.
so there really is no reason to hide
when the real monster
is actually
inside.
