Belief
He hurts her.
She tries to love him, to cling onto him
Like the ledge of a tall mountain.
He wants her to become
His slave.
He bats her around, abuses her,
Tears away all her hope
But that one shred of faith that hangs on
To her heart,
When she rips large cloud-like puffs of bread
That dissolves down her rusting throat.
She remembers how she welcomed him,
How she saw him in the sky
When she sat alone every night,
How she almost felt she were talking to him,
Casting her thoughts out like a fishing line,
And feeling some kind of slight tug.
She had vowed to him
To be his, only his,
A part of his property.
It seemed to her now that she was just
One of his toys that sat abandoned in his cellar.
She cried every night as she hung
To her wet pillow,
Hoping that he would come back.
There she rotted and crumbled to a skeleton,
All the while thinking that he would save her.
