i'm a survivor
out of the blue
just like that
with a snap of a finger
a hit with a bat.
they told her.
she was four and young,
unable to know.
her parents wept
as it swept
her away.
the treatments came often
but nothing could soften
the burning pain.
its like a chain
that drags you down
with it
bit by bit.
but stay strong
it won’t be long.
the hair on her head
fled.
fight through it
it didn’t slow her down a bit
as her family would sit
it couldn’t split
her from the world.
her progress increasing
it was ceasing
she was four and young
unable to know.
her parents wept
tears of joy.
she stayed strong.
it wasn’t long.
the hair on her head came back in strong.
cancer won the battle
but lost the war.
