My Dearest Ross
You used to shine so bright, you could light up the sky at night
Even on the darkest days, with your beautiful majestic ways ; you'd light the world up with your rays
But what happened my dearest rose?
You don't shine like you used to
Your pedals are wilting and your leaves are dying
For your long hard stem and fierce thorns are now arising
What happened my dearest rose?
You don't shine bright like you used to
You used to stand out from the crowd not blend in
The Lilly's, petunias, magnolias and sunflowers all wanted to be my dearest rose
Not anymore ; they sit and watch from afar as your pedals wilt and leaves die
They all sit and wonder why
Why is your long hard stem and fierce thorns arising?
Why are you not shining and standing out like you used to
What happened my dearest rose?
Was it something I said? Something I didn't do? Please let me know if it was I that changed you
Was it I that made your beautiful pedals wilt and those lovely leaves die?
Was it i that brought out the true you ; the long hard stem and arising thorns
What happened my dearest rose?
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's you
The true you
But it couldn't be
Not my dearest rose
Not the one that shined so bright
Not the one with the beautiful majestic ways that brightened up all the darkest days
What happened my dearest rose?
Was this all a façade?
One of your little games
I thought you were different
You're just like the rest
All of you the same
What happened my dearest rose?
To much love
To much time
To much to think that you were only all mine
Come up with a solution, a way to make you think
What happened my dearest rose?
Start a little digging, make a little mess
Just to find out how you were always at your best
Your games have been uncovered, your play book laid to rest
What happened my dearest rose?
I may never understand why your roots run so deep
They have been right there, right under my feet
My dearest rose, love of my life
The one who you almost made your wife
One more thing, if you could answer me this
With your loving touch and wonderful bliss
The meaning behind each and every kiss
This sudden change that took me by storm
Could it have been something I wore?
You're the only one that truly knows
What happened to my dearest rose.
