Farewell

eyes scan across a page
silence filled with pain and rage
no words can be spoken now
the people here've forgotten how
we don't know what comes tomorrow
plates of pancakes drenched in sorrow
but we know it won't be like today
nothing ever can truly stay

snow will come and silence all
smother the memories of the fall
vases plummet from a crooked shelf
and no one knows better than myself
the pain that absence always brings
and as the solemn bell rings
it will be too late for a proper goodbye
instead we will let ourselves sit and cry

if the ache starts to subside
it will be as if the other has died
you, I will never forgive nor forget
and I never can repay the deep debt
all that you've done can't fit in a room
the fights, the secrets; glee triumphs doom
your determination outlasts the world
your love of chaos and all that has unfurled

we are opposites, yet somehow the same
we take it all seriously, but play it as a game
your sarcastic wit brightens many a day
when you belt songs, it keeps the monsters away
we defend each other, no matter what
we drag each other out of gloom or a rut
and one day we will meet again
my dearest common genius, my truest friend
