Looking Up
As a child I looked up
I stared at the sky-scrapers
And gazed at the stars
It seemed impossible that they could extend that tall
And yet they did
It seemed impossible that they could be that far away
And yet they are
I looked up to the adults
They were tall
They were wise
I idolized the teenagers
They were cool
They were free
It wasn’t possible that one day I would that figure
That person that the children looked up to
How could I, so small, become that tall
How could I become that important to strangers
But now I am here
Being watched
Being looked up too
And yet the sky-scrapers still tower above it all
And the stars are still beyond our grasp
