Where I'm From
I am from a tiny town
In North West Montana,
Small schools and small communities.
Small everything except for the mountains,
Purple and snow capped.
My own little bowl of contentment.
I am from a family of diversity,
Not including furry friends.
Baby siblings and aunts and uncles,
Cousins and grandmas and grandpas.
A mommy and daddy.
I am from an average house in the suburbs,
White, small, nice garage, good neighbors.
Barbeques and bonfires,
Smoke and hamburgers.
Trampoline and large swimming pool open for business.
I am from the forest,
Enormous trees and pretty rocks in my pocket.
The smell of earth, moonlight on my skin.
The sound of birds and quail in the tall grass.
Coyote howls and elk bugles,
A cool lake and warm sun on my face.
I am from imagination,
Dress up and house,
Doctor checkups and mermaids tails,
Safari explorers and wizardry training.
Self written plays and magic shows
Performed in front of an
Eager audience.
I am from emotion,
Too many hellos and goodbyes
To count on fingers.
Laughter like bubbles
And tears like acid.
A final goodbye
And many more hellos
To come.
