A Myth
I am a Greek myth
Secretly engrained in every day life
With no patent or copyright
On the thoughts I gave birth to
I am Boreas
The hostile North wind wearing a scowl carved from ice
Who rips doors from their hinges
And raises cars into the clouds I created
I am pale-faced Selene
The goddess who drifts across the sky every night
And trails behind fingers of moonlight to caress her sleeping shepherd
I am Hermes
Flitting over the heads of eager thieves with sparks in their eyes
I am Ares
Wielding I.E.D.’s and sniper rifles
For religions and dictatorships that leave scars across the earth
I am Euterpe with her lyre
Coaxing rhythms out of a muse’s head and into a microphone
To be hair-flipped and fist-pumped to
I am a Greek myth
Fake and thrown aside
For something new
