I remember
I remember…
I remember the softness,
the way the wind swayed,
The of swoosh my little dress
as I walked down the steps.
I was small with his big hands in mine
as he helped me hunt for Easter eggs
or as he read the story of why we have Christmas
from the big white Bible.
I walked down the steps
as the sun walks from the darkest steeple
I realize I will never see
him, who turned on the light for me.
I miss his hugs
his sense of humor that I never understood
his huge smile will be missed
by all who ever witnessed it.
I think of him
in this better place of heaven
where he watches over me with care
and I feel his love everyday.
