The Cemetery
Trees loom over the cemetery giving it an eerie resonance
I watch the shadows sway in the wind
The leafless branches are bony reaching fingers
I go cold at the sight
Hazy light filters through small wisps of clouds
Spanish moss blocks and scatters the rays
the sun seems to hang low in the sky like a bat hanging from the ceiling of a stalagmite cave
Wind whips violently through the yard and around the tombstones,
Softy whispering with invisible voice
Swaying the bare trees and shrubs in its wake
How many forgotten and unmarked graves am I walking upon?
What lies in the hollow ground of this legendary city?
The cemetery strikes fear into my core with every passing thought of the unseen eyes that could be staring
Watching
Waiting
Commiserating
