They Say Time...
They say time flies by before you know it
In hindsight, indeed it does
But here in the present, it drags
Exhausted by the long days to come
They say time heals all wounds
Sometimes it does, easing the pain of loss
But also exacerbating guilt and shame
Refusing to forget your crime
They say time is of the essence
A tenet held by all
Everything has its deadline
Even life
They say time is on my side
And yet, the moments that should last forever
Seem to flash briefly by
While the moments you dread
Seem to drag by painfully slow
They say time is a hero
But what is it that time saves us from?
From idling away the long hours?
All in all, time is many things
Something to fill
Something to waste
Something to enjoy
And of all these things,
Time keeps marching on,
Never faltering
Never stopping
And yet with all this time
There is still so much to left do
And so much time to do it in
Yet time is still running out
