Where I'm From
I’m from the second floor
from a large loving family.
I’m from cornfields just over the fence
from the most immense Oaks you’ve ever seen
I’m from turtles and squirrels and raccoons with arrows
From the baby sitter and firehouse just down the street
I’m from my prints on the walls and the occasional nightmare
from the arms of the blue chair and chocolate milk
I’m from why’s, and where’s
from moving vans and long car rides
I’m from tall buildings out the window
from not knowing what to think
I’m from I love you’s and you’re my favorite blue eyed nephew
I’m from this new place
from all new faces
From home long out of sight
I’m from shy on the first day, and every day after
from hopping the fence to go to school
I’m from the new arrival, the one that changed my life
from big brother here on out
I’m from adjustments and doctors
From pills and psychiatrists
I’m from them finally realizing that middle school wasn’t right for me
I am now from a new hope
from crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s
From everything running smoothly
I’m from teenage jobs and high school
From the Stage, the script, the lights, the audience
I’m from where the grass is greener on the other side
From memories and experience
I am from the best, but never forgetting the rest
I am from my heart grown and crushed by love
and do it all over again
This is me
This is who I am
From the unexpected fork in the road
And the path less traveled by
