Memory Loss
Let her remember me and my family
Her life and her husband
Where she lives and what she did
yesterday!
A drop of anger, sadness, and despair
slides down my cheek
Remove the heavy chains that bear down on her
She must remember something,
even if it is not meaningful
Or significant
Let her return to the days when her memory was
sharper than a sword
Glazed-over eyes
Peering into your soul
Longing
Longing for a word to pass her lips
In her soul her memories are kept but
cannot be unearthed
For the key is lost
We are her memory now
Her protectors of the past.
