Doses and Diagnoses

December 9, 2013
By Anonymous

We are doses
and diagnoses
and pills and pills
that rob us of pain and thrills.
We are hazy children,
mindless, spineless, sedated,
shuffling through this shell of an existence
voiceless,
choking on the drugs
shoved down our throats
by grave men in white coats.
It has been sixty years
since our bloodstreams have been clean.
We have labeled human a medical condition.
Medical histories like dog tags,
we will forever be labeled “broken.”

Luckily, the people in my life understand that I don't want to be doped up. But too many of my friends and family have gone through this, where they were practically raised on prescriptions, and it's not okay to tell a child they're bipolar because they'll go home and research it and decide that there's something wrong with them.

I just wanted to clear up that bipolar is just one example, that this can happen in any situation. Also, I am not saying medication is never necessary. I have witnessed first-hand that it can be, but it is far too casual, like we are just trying to plug the holes and too lazy to address the real problem.
