On the Farm
Deerwood
I recall the lambs
All over the shelves
to remind us of our Good Shepherd
And the antique ornament
Shattered in third or fourth grade
that proved I was a disappointment.
The mushrooms, shiny and ceramic,
which I will someday inherit
simply because I said I liked them
And the attempts to explain
that only turned into back-talk
Our shared world is one of Fox news and God’s love
The right and the left
More than just hands
And finally resolving
never changing
only realizing
that the ties that bind cannot be broken
and neither can we.
