All the Good Dead Things
All the good dead things lay outdoors,
 Protruding out of the hardened snow,
 Like the tongue of a frog frozen in ice.
 They are bare and light,
 Yet burdened with a Seasonal encumbrance.
 I think of soldiers,
 Cursed with the weight of War and Peace,
 On tired, weary shoulders.
 And once the joyous girth of spring returns,
 Melting the snow banks into puddles
 Brown with the sorrow of lost grandeur,
 Vivacity shall rebound;
 For now all the good dead things
 Shall wage their holy war against freeze and frost,
 Waiting for the coming suns.
