Demons
Demons
When we were younger we thought that demons were the monsters that lived under our beds
We believed that they hid inside our closets or in the darkness of our cupboards
We didn’t realize that the real monsters were the ones that lived among us as relatives and friends or that the really scary ones lived deep inside our heads
The demons of our childhood simply made us scared to sleep
The demons after childhood cause us to lose our sleep
When night begins to fall our fear is no longer of the creatures in the darkness but rather of the strangers that will appear to be so harmless
You see there comes a time when those who are supposed to love us most will knock us down and leave us lying there like some washed up carcass on a coast
Your vision will become blurry from the tears that fill your eyes and your thoughts will begin to darken from all the constant hate and despise
For few things hurt more than when the people you are supposed to depend on become more terrifying than the “monsters” we used to hide from
