Treasures
There she was,
A little girl dancing in the orchard,
Picking apples and peaches
Smiling and laughing until the sun went down and the moon came up.
Life was beautiful in it's simplicity
She went to daycare
Playing in the magical sandbox,
And swimming in the fascinating pool.
Her only friend,
Her other half waited for her everyday
To come
And play
He loved her
And she adored him
Even though they didn't look alike,
They were siblings
But then the little girl switched schools
And met new friends
She thought she was alone
But she went back to him every summer
Summers were the freedom days
They could catch dragonflies,
Create games,
And play with dinosaurs in the sandbox.
She felt like she didn't really fit in at school
She was the "tomboy"
But he always was there for here
Always together
And through sports
They saw each other.
At a soccer camp,
Smiling and laughing
The two would talk about their schools
And play games with the other kids
They were the oldest,
He was always one year older, but her birthday one month before his
But then she entered middle school
And the little girl grew up,
She didn't go back that summer
And her heart was broken
She never saw him again
The girl was devastated
She hoped he would call her to talk
But he never did
All of a sudden
Just after the girl had turned 13, and the boy 14
She saw him in a soccer game
Their teams were playing each other
The girl ran,
Screaming his name, gave him a big hug,
And was happy.
The two hadn't spoken in over a year and a half
I don't know if it was fate
Seeing Ben again,
But I do know,
That the thousands of sleepovers and hundreds of games we created,
Are some of my most treasured memories.
