A Ship, Sinks
I.
My bones & organs try to fall
deeper, out of my body, through my feet and
away from the surface.
I am a ship that wants to
sink. A ship begging to be engulfed in the
blackness of the water.
II.
The moment the lines appear faint but
red, my body yearns for a paler complexion to
see the places that would deal the most
damage. In uncontrolled waters the ship is
sunk and with that the crew is
gone. I pleaded for them to escape on
lifeboats, so the damage and
fall out wouldn’t affect them. But against my will they
stayed.
III.
Calm and quiet under the ocean the
wreckage settles. The bow and stern fall together lying
peacefully in the sand. My ears are deaf, only
silence, because looking up to the surface there is still a hint of
light. Immediately, the ship wishes to float,
wishes to sail and
regrets the wish she made to
sink.
