storms
Before I had even relinquished the whisp of air that was my breath
Into the gloomy night of bursting thunder
You had been able to translate those ideas
Into coinciding thoughts
As the willowy trees shook
Reinforcing the rain to pound harder
You were able to soothe my every fear
It was as if you had chased every burden
Through the stormy night
And your consequence was
The bursts of lighting
But such storms were naïve of the thought
That perhaps the thunder soothed us
At least in warned us
Of the burst of illumination that would follow
We were foreigners
To a world of preparation
The darkness engulfed us
Into a quite shell of understanding
A certain façade of hope
Where we were most wholly content
At the precipice
I’m not quite sure
When you had lost the strength to chase the storms
Perhaps it was when the thunder refused
To further soothe you
I long for the days
Where seldom a sound is required to emit
Before we escape into the vastness of the unseen universe
You and I
Its felt like centuries
Since I’ve seen
A lighting storm
