"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars." -Les Brown

Deep Breaths
Heart Beats
sometimes
we succeed
sometimes
we fail

either way
at least we tried
at least we gave
everything

at least we put up
a good fight
put up with the pain
the suffering
and sacrificed
everything we had

at least no one can say
we didn't try
no one can say
we couldn't deal
with the pain

it might be hard
at first
but then we learn
to deal with it
to make it work
to succeed

maybe not in a traditional sense
but succeed nonetheless
to wake up and Realize
what we've been Striding toward
has been behind us
the whole time

to Realize
we can do more
than succeed
we can excel

once we excel
the work
isn't work anymore
it's just the icing on the cake
the moment
that takes your breath away

when you discover
it was all worth it
when you look back
and Realize
what you've done

you Realize
the only thing holding you back
was yourself
you Realize
all you needed to do
was Push

The author's comments:
I wrote this shortly after running in the cross country state finals meet. As I was looking back on my season, I was inspired to write this. However, I think this can be applied to much more than running, running is just how it shows a greater meaning.
