Rosemary

What happened to your body?
It can't just be left there.
Where did you go?
Someone is there and alive and breathing and thinking

And then they are not.

How does that even work?
It just stops. Just ends.
No.
That can't be all that happens
I cannot--and I refuse to--believe that people are just sparks and mechanics
Scientifically we are just electrons
Bits of energy zapping through our nerves
But energy can't have thoughts.
Or feelings.
Or personhood.
You were a person
Not just a conglomeration of cells.
And then the person left
And you became nothing but a conglomeration of cells.

Where did you go, Rosemary?
If I talk to you,

Will you hear me?
I never got to say goodbye
You can't have gone
Without knowing who we are
Or who we will become.
You can't be gone without a trace.
I never got to say goodbye

"Take root in the plants with your limbs"
I can hold your hand when I climb a tree
"Go to the sky…as is your nature"
Do you see me when we lay in the grass?
Do you see us holding hands?
"Your vital breath to the wind"
When I speak, will you hear my words?
Can you carry them? Float them around to help others hear?
"May your eye go to the sun"
When it glints in my eye, is it you smiling?
You always smiled at the sun.
I will always smile at you.

Rosemary died. But she can't be gone, can she?
