The Grind
Going in with your head up
Ready for every challenge
Prepared for anything
Excited for the experience
Planning how to use the rewards
But then it starts,
every damned day
with the same people,
Inheriting a new family
But they move on
like the dead goldfish
from elementary school
that you forgot about
You don’t move on
You can’t move on
Not now, Not yet
Stuck in the same grind
Keeping in mind the money
Freedom is precious,
being in your second
home for at least seventy hours,
every week.
Hard work keeps you working
and you obtain a new ability
Running on four hours sleep
and working sixteen hour nights
The grind allows you
To meet more people
To make more friends
To learn more skills
To create more memories
Finally,
the busy season stops
the grind is over and
all of the energy and excitedness
dissipates, you are mentally and physically
drained. On comes the next grind.
