Chosen One
Until recently, I had only
heard stories about you;
about your selfish ways
and fatal habits.
Going from one woman
to the next, never stopping.
Destroying lives with no mercy.
I never thought you would
come after me- I was
a young, healthy mother;
off to a great start to life.
But I guess that doesn’t
matter to you, you don’t care
who your subjects are.
I never paid attention to you,
but my doctor informs me -
you’ve been growing for years.
Spreading yourself out,
taking your sweet time,
slowly killing me.
Soon, you will leave
a father and mother childless,
a husband wifeless,
and a daughter without her mommy.
With mission accomplished,
you will move on, searching,
for your next victim; because
that is what breast cancer does,
that’s who you are.
