Sprinkling Memories
“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good thing don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”--The Doctor “Vincent and the Doctor” Season 5 episode 10
I lie here with you,
my beautiful one.
As tears trickle down my cheeks
and in your
big
brown
eyes,
like calm globes
stare at me and I see
the joy of pain, and suffering in you too.
As we lie here, oblivious,
we reach an understanding.
You are my good things,
you make up my pile of my good things,
and you can’t be overshadowed.
For you have been with me.
Watching me as I watch you
we grow older, and older,
the minutes, days, weeks, years
rushing by like a bullet train.
You, my sweet dog,
you
have been here with me through everything.
The painful years
the agonizing months
the weeks of weakness
the days of dread and depression.
But you, my yellow lab,
my sweet puppy,
you have been here, waiting
eagerly greeting me
every
day
bounding around my room
sprinkling new memories
onto our piles of good things.
And all I hope,
is that I have added to your pile too.
