Daddy Loves Me
She’s smiling as always, happy as can be.
Full face of makeup, and her hair done.
But if only we could see,
the truth behind her smiles
and her bruised and beat up body.
She won’t tell anyone she’s hurting, even though her vision’s starting to get spotty.
Under that concealer is an eye, black and blue. She refuses to believe the truth.
“Daddy does it ‘cause he loves me,”
She tells herself.
But Daddy doesn’t love you, if only you could see.
You are so much more than a toy.
So much more than you think.
You could take on the world,
but instead you get involved with boys.
Stay off that corner and get into school;
you won’t regret it, I promise.
Stop acting like a fool.
