He'll climb to my window
and read about new places
With nothing but the moon
to illuminate the pages

I'll hear his warm protective voice
clash out from the deafening silence
And even though my eyes are closed
I battle sleep with defiance

My hand will reach out blindly
to feel his soft pink lips
and he'll stop mid sentence
to wrap my hand in his

Then my mouth will curl
at the sound of a book dropping
His face meeting mine
my heart almost stopping

His warm breath on my neck
as I brush my hands through his hair
I know the sun will rise soon
but right now I don' want to care

At night is when I'm happy
The sun bringing sorrow
Taking my love away from me
until the darkness of tomorrow

At some point I fall asleep
and when I wake he's gone
The thought of him returning
is what keeps me holding on

Then I see it on the ground
all dog eared and wrinkly
Smiling as I clutch it close
Warmth spreads within me

In this small simple book
lies all our hopes and dreams
of a future where we travel
to see new places and new things

And no one will ever understand
or even pretend to care
about two young forbidden lovers
to whom life just isn't fair

But still I cling to the hope
that finally the day will come
Where I'll climb out that very window
and together we will run

The author's comments:
I write best when I'm depressed or upset because I enjoy writing out how I feel. In this case the poem started off as simple sentences that didn't even rhyme. But as I went along with it I felt the scene play out in my head, and the rest of the poem came flowing to me.
